Defense Ministry accuses five defendants of attempted murder of a young man at a disco in Fafa

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) charged five men with the attempted murder of a 24-year-old boy who was brutally attacked next to a nightclub in Fafa, Braga district, in May 2022 following a controversy.

According to the deputy’s indictment, which Lusa had access to this Friday, two of the five defendants, all Brazilian citizens between the ages of 20 and 36, are in pre-trial detention, while two other members of the group are in jail. He fled to Brazil. and the Netherlands, his whereabouts are unknown, while arrest warrants have been issued by the authorities.

The sixth defendant will answer for three crimes against physical integrity.

The deputy says that in the early morning of May 29, 2022, a group consisting of the main victim, Ruy Mendez, another young man and two young women, went to the Mamma Mia nightclub in S. Gens, Fafe. where there was a group of six defendants – Igor Sales Maya, Wandson Sales Modesto, Weverton Lopez, Davi Lima Oliveira, Diisson Souza de Oliveira and Jane Jade Pacheco e Pacheco.

The prosecution reports that one of the defendants, “who was already romantically involved” with one of the women in Ruy Mendez’s group, “went up to her and walked up to her,” to which the victim replied, “Baza.” we don’t want any problems from here.”

Then one of the other defendants “pulled the hair” of another young woman who was with the victim’s group, and immediately after that the defendant “slapped her in the face, causing her to fall”, and at that moment the security guards of the nightclub “brought out all the elements of the group” defendants outside the disco, and the group of the victim remained inside.

The deputy refers that about 30 minutes later, at about 5:45 am, the group of Rui Mendes left the disco, and already on the public road a group of defendants was waiting for us to “revenge”.

The indictment describes situations of various acts of aggression committed by the defendants against four young people, such as “pulling hair, punching and kicking all over the body.”

The main victim, “who had been knocked to the ground seconds before” by one of the defendants, “got up and tried to push the attacking defendants away” onto his other friend.

“In the face of such interference, the defendants immediately ceased their attack on Hugo Fernandez, instead turning to assistant Ruy Mendez, brutally punching and kicking him in the head and body, chasing him every time he managed to get up from the ground and tried to escape,” it says. in the indictment.

Rui Mendez, who became an assistant in the process, managed to distance himself several times from the defendants, who continued to pursue him.

“Continuous action and cumulative effort, Defendant Weverton Lopez kicked and Defendant Davi Lima Oliveira punched the assistant, causing him to fall helplessly to the ground, continuing to kick and punch him in the head despite the fall,” describes the prosecution.

“Despite the fact that he was very upset,” the young man “managed to get up, leaned against a car parked on the street, where he was again attacked by the accused Weverton Lopez with a strong kick to the head and another blow from the side accused Igor Prodazhny” .

“Defendant Igor Sales, dressed in a red polo shirt, continued to beat the victim on the head with his fist. At the same time, despite the grave state of health of the assistant lying on the ground, the defendant Wandson Sales Monteiro, who put on a blue T-shirt with the symbols of the Brazilian national team, struck him another blow to the head, ”the indictment emphasizes.

The deputy argues that “as a direct and necessary consequence of the conduct” of the five defendants, Ruy Mendez “suffered a traumatic brain injury and a maxillofacial injury, both serious, underwent an emergency operation in the specialty of neurosurgery and was admitted to the hospital.” artificial coma situation.

It took the young man more than four months to recover from his injuries, but he was left with repercussions such as a “permanent scar”.

Igor Sales Maia, Weverton Lopez (they are in pre-trial detention), Davi Lima de Oliveira and Diisson Souza de Oliveira (part unknown) and Wandson Sales Modesto (free but banned from leaving the country) will be tried for co-authorship of a qualified murder in the form of attempted murder. as well as for various offenses from offenses with qualified physical integrity.

The trial will take place in the court of Guimarães and is due to begin in April.
