Andre Villas-Boas has already announced to the SAD of FC Porto his decision to join the English club, who will therefore only have to pay a termination fee.
The young Portuguese coach spent just one season with the Blaugrana, winning the Europa League, the Portuguese League, the Taça de Portugal and the Supertaça Candido de Oliveira in the 2010/2011 season. The 33-year-old coach earns around 1 million euros at Porto and can increase his salary to 5 million euros.
Colombian striker Radamel Falcao could also follow the same path as Villas-Boas and sign for Chelsea. The London club would be willing to pay 30 million euros in connection with the striker’s release clause.
LONDONERS AND DRAGONS DO NOT CONFIRM
Chelsea refused to confirm the signing of Villas-Boas, only assuring that news would be forthcoming. “We do not comment on rumors about the name of any coach to be appointed at Chelsea,” a spokesman for the London club told Agência Lusa.
Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourley said last week that the recruitment process for a new manager was going “very well”. “We hope a new coach will be appointed within a week or two,” he was quoted as saying by SkySports in Bangkok, where he was promoting the Asia tour.
FC Porto Futebol, SAD also did not confirm the deal. At the request of the Securities Market Commission (CMVM), the Dragons released a statement yesterday: “Porto Futebol Football Club of South Africa, at the request of the CMVM, informs the market that coach Andre Villas Boas, as well as several players of the team, have a termination clause activities. To date, this company has not received any notification that this clause will be implemented, nor the coach’s consent to such a desire.”
