PSD leader Luis Montenegro was attacked on the head with green paint this Wednesday by a climate activist while visiting the Lisbon Tourist Exchange (BTL) as part of the party’s election program.
The young activist was immediately removed by a PSP agent, and Luis Montenegro reacted with humor, saying: “I’m ready for anything.”

Luis Montenegro was helped by members of the delegation present at the entrance to the FIL, namely young people who shouted “Montenegro, Montenegro” and “This is where you can see the strength of AD”, as well as “Luis, friend, the youth are with you”.
The SDP chairman entered the FIL building where the event is being held and then went to the bathroom to wash off the paint that had affected not only his clothes but his face and hair, but was unsuccessful in removing it from the site.
“See you soon, good work everyone,” Montenegro said before getting into the car.
A few minutes after the departure of the PSD president, his press service told reporters at the scene that Montenegro would no longer return to BTL, and the visit would remain with Nuno Melo, who was hit only on part of his clothes.
But End Fossil activists demanded action in a statement, arguing that “no party has a plan that matches climate reality.”
The student movement is calling for an end to the use of fossil fuels by 2030 and demanding that we stop using gas to generate electricity by next year, using 100% renewable and free electricity instead.
“No political program predicts how we are going to make the transition within scientific time frames. The group recalls that the March 10 elections give a mandate until 2028, so the next government will be the last that can guarantee an end to fossil fuel use by 2030.
PSP reports arrest
In a statement, PSP confirmed the arrest of the young man. Authorities quickly identified “five individuals belonging to an environmental organization.”
The PSP found that the group was engaging in “suspicious behavior.” The activists had “1 can of paint” with them. The activist who attacked Montenegro “was not traced in time,” PSP admits. After the protest, the can was confiscated.
