The National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) recorded 183 incidents this Saturday, mostly falling trees and buildings, without anyone being injured due to the bad weather in the country, an ANEPC source told Lusa.
According to Commander Pedro Araujo, between 00:00 and 19:00 this Saturday, 183 incidents related to adverse weather conditions were recorded, particularly in the districts of Lisbon, Coimbra and Porto.
While there were no injuries, there were 66 incidents involving falling trees, 55 involving falling structures such as poles and advertising structures, and 46 involving road clearing work.
In the coastal area, ANEPC is monitoring a fishing vessel stuck in the municipality of Peniche and “waiting to be evacuated.”
According to the National Maritime Administration, the vessel ran aground this Saturday at dawn on the beach of Molhe Leste and the six people on board managed to free themselves.
On Friday, ANEPC issued a warning to the public due to forecasts of severe weather with strong winds, rough seas and snowfall. The warning is in effect until 11:59 pm Sunday.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts strong winds, more intense on the west coast and in the highlands, with gusts of up to 95 kilometers per hour, rough seas on the west coast and snowfall in the northern and central parts of the country. highlands, above 1400/1600 meters, descending to 700/900 meters.
Given changing weather conditions, ANEPC warns of the need to take extra care on the road, with slippery road surfaces due to the possibility of ice, frost and snow accumulation, possible accidents on the coast due to rough seas, falling branches or trees, and infrastructure, associated with communication and energy networks, in addition to thermal discomfort among the population due to a sharp drop in minimum temperature.
