Cavaco Silva argues that only a “strong vote” in the AD will guarantee political change and stability.

Former President of the Republic Cavaco Silva said this Friday that only a “strong vote” in the AD in Sunday’s elections will guarantee “political stability” and change, given that Portugal is “in a particularly difficult situation.”

Before the Women’s Day luncheon, an AD campaign initiative, Cavaco Silva stressed that he has not been involved in an election campaign for 21 years – he did not include his own campaigns in the 2006 and 2011 presidential elections. This is the number, but I decided to make an exception.

“In good conscience, I could not remain silent, I consider it my civic duty to tell the Portuguese that only a strong vote in the AD will guarantee political stability, a solution to the country’s economic and social problems and the changes that Portugal needs,” he said. .

In a brief statement in which he was accompanied by Maria Cavaco Silva, PSD President Luis Montenegro, also with his wife, and Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas, he began by emphasizing that “the support of women was crucial.” “For his political victories.

“But I am here today because I know very well that Portugal is in a particularly difficult situation as a result of eight years of mistakes by the socialist government: low wages, pensions that do not guarantee a decent life, extremely high taxes and young people fleeing their country from our Portugal to achieve a better life abroad,” he criticized.

The former prime minister and former head of state also praised the leader of AD (the coalition uniting PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), Luis Montenegro.

“He has demonstrated that he is well prepared to be prime minister to lead the government and coordinate and direct ministers as required by the Constitution,” he said.

Cavaco Silva noted that during the election campaign Montenegro “concentrated its speeches on the policies that the AD government intends to implement and demonstrated calm and seriousness in its speeches,” congratulating him on this.

“It is because of all this that I, in good conscience, have decided to make an exception and state clearly that next Sunday voting for AD under the leadership of Dr. Luis Montenegro will be the best decision for all Portuguese,” he said, addressing the media on a microphone, specifically installed outside the Estufa Fria hall, where the lunch will be held and in which, among many other women, Manuela Ferreira Leite and Leonor Beleza are participating.
