CNE sends MP reports on Miguel Albuquerque’s election claims

The National Electoral Commission (CNE) has received reports concerning statements made this Sunday by the President of the Regional Government of Madeira when he went to the polling station to vote in the legislative elections.

“Participation is the result of viewing protocols at polling stations broadcast on CNN Portugal And in Madeira News Diary“, explained the CNE in a message.

The Social Democrat’s statements “concern two candidates in the elections” that could “interfere with the process of forming the will of voters.” Thus, Miguel Albuquerque risks being exposed to “non-compliance with the law,” CNE noted.

“The commission decides to forward the case materials to the prosecutor’s office, since there is evidence of the crime of propaganda on election day and at the polling station, and to oblige the media to stop disseminating such statements,” he concluded.

This Sunday, the CNE also sent reports to the ministry regarding statements made by former Prime Minister José Sócrates. On leaving the polling stations, the socialist revealed which party he voted for.
