The President of the Republic today begins to listen to parties and coalitions

The President of the Republic on Tuesday begins to listen to the parties and coalitions that elected the deputies in Sunday’s elections, a listening process that begins with the PAN and ends on the 20th AD.

As the president announced on Monday, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will receive the PAN on Tuesday, the Livre on Wednesday, the CDU coalition (PCP/PEV) on Thursday, the BE on Friday and the Liberal Initiative on Saturday.

Next week will be the time to hear Chegu on the 18th, the PS on the 19th and the Democratic Alliance (AD) on the 20th, a coalition that brings together the PSD, SDS-PP and PPM.

The goal of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is to listen to all the parties and coalitions that will be represented in the Assembly of the Republic, taking into account the preliminary results announced by the Ministry of Internal Administration and without prejudice to the circles that are yet to be determined.

The results of the two emigration circles – from Europe and Outside Europe – each of which elects two deputies, which should happen on the same day when the AD will be heard, have yet to be calculated.

According to preliminary results, AD, which ran on the mainland and the Azores, received 1,757,879 votes, 28.63% of the total, and elected 76 deputies.

If we add to these results the three elected and the 52,992 votes received in Madeira by the PSD and SDS-PP, which competed together in this region, without the PPM, we get a total of 1,810,871 votes, 29.49% of the total, and 79 mandates – – 77 from the PSD and 2 from the SDS-PP.

The PS received 1,759,937 votes (28.66%) and elected 77 deputies.

Article 187 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic states that “the Prime Minister is appointed by the President of the Republic after consultation with the parties represented in the Assembly of the Republic and taking into account the results of the elections.”

On election night, PSD President Luis Montenegro said he had a “reasonable expectation” that the President of the Republic would nominate him for the post of Prime Minister to form a government, taking into account the results of the expected legislative elections.
