TikTok ban will deprive Joe Biden of a voting tool in the presidential election

A law that will give Chinese TikTok owners (author:teDance) About six months to sell the US assets of the social network will steal the platform with which the President of the United States (US) and Democrats hope to win re-election in November, the agency said this Thursday Reuters.

Joe Biden’s campaign has received thousands of positive reactions on a TikTok video criticizing Republican rival Donald Trump for cutting Social Security spending. But comments focused on a bill that could ban the social network in the US. “Glad we saw this on TikTok,” one user wrote. “How are you going to use this in your campaign if you ban him?” – asked another.

Democratic online political discourse in the US has moved to TikTok in recent years. Under owner Elon Musk, Company X has relaxed restrictions on harassment. At the same time, Facebook moved away from political content. TikTok’s short-form videos are the platform of choice for a new generation of politically mobilized Americans.

Users of the social network TikTok disproportionately belong to groups that support Joe Biden’s Democratic Party. Former President Donald Trump’s campaign doesn’t even have an official TikTok account. According to a Pew Research Center study, 60% of frequent TikTok news consumers in the United States are Democrats or have Democratic leanings. 30% are Hispanic and 19% are black.

The White House called on the US Senate to take urgent action on the legislation passed on Wednesday by a vote of 352 to 65 against. If it is approved in this chamber of the US Congress, the project will be ratified by the president, since Joe Biden has already announced that he will sign the law.
