Six-year-old boy rescues pregnant mother and brother from fire in Barcelos

A cough caused by carbon monoxide already spreading throughout the house caused a 6-year-old boy to wake up from his sleep. And it was the success of the whole family: the child managed to wake up his pregnant mother, and also save his 5-year-old brother, who was fast asleep. It happened early this Thursday morning in Arcoselo, Barcelos. The mother and children were hospitalized in Braga. When help arrived at 5:30, everyone was already showing symptoms of poisoning.

The incident was likely caused by poor smoke removal from the stove installed in the living room of the house. Carbon monoxide build-up was already high in the house, and Barcelos firefighters had to ventilate the area while they treated the victims.

A 34-year-old pregnant woman was woken up by a boy who, in addition to coughing, also had nausea and vomiting. After 112, the mother asked for help and during the call began to lose consciousness. Help came quickly, and when Barcelos firefighters and the VMER medical team from the local hospital arrived at the house on Rua do Jean, everyone was already showing symptoms of nausea, vomiting and drowsiness. The decision of the medical team was to take the mother and children to the Braga hospital, and the doctors escorted the victims to the medical facility.
