ASAE suspends the activities of seven travel agencies

ASAE opened 70 administrative offense cases as part of the operation, which controlled more than 480 operators of the purchase and sale of digital goods, content and services, which also resulted in the suspension of the activities of seven travel agencies.

In a statement issued this Friday, the ASAE Food and Economic Security Authority highlights the main violations identified, such as failure to deliver the product within the time agreed with the consumer, non-refund of the amount paid and non-conformity of the product.

It also cites lack of travel agency registration, lack of travel agency insurance, misleading consumers, restriction of access due to location (“geo-blocking”), lack of a complaint book (physical and electronic) and lack of information on call costs, among other things.

As a result of the operation, the activities of seven travel agencies were also suspended due to the lack of a National Register of Travel Agents and mandatory insurance.

During the week of World Consumer Rights Day, ASAE said it had developed the inspection operation at the national level “to check compliance with legal regulations in brick-and-mortar establishments and in the ‘online’ trade in the purchase and sale of digital goods and content.” and services, combating the parallel economy, misleading consumers, as well as in the travel agency sector.”

According to him, the action was also based on “numerous messages and complaints received” on these issues.

Since the entry into force of Decree-Law No. 84/2021 of October 18, concerning the sale and purchase of goods, digital content and services, ASAE has already initiated 1,500 cases of administrative offenses, 120 of which this year, within the scope of its mission includes consumer rights Protection.
