Mozambique began registration for October’s general elections across the country this Friday, calling for mass participation in a process in which more than seven million voters are expected to register.
“We encourage everyone to participate enthusiastically in the voter registration process to take part in the voting process on October 9, 2024 and achieve a better future for our country as your vote matters to the future of Mozambique,” he said. appealed to the President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), Carlos Matsinha, even before the start of the process.
According to the latest data provided by CNE, voter registration, which began this Friday, will last until April 28 in Mozambique and from March 30 to April 28 abroad. This process will cost 19,993,186,146 meticais (288 million euros), according to the latest data provided by CNE.
The electoral body expects to register more than seven million people this year, with 9,165 registration centers and 6,330 teams participating in the process, among others.
“Voter registration (…) marks the beginning of a continuous process of registering citizens to enable them to vote in the October 9 elections,” added Carlos Matsinghe.
Mozambique will hold general elections on October 9 this year, including presidential ones, in which the current head of state and leader of the Mozambique Liberation Front (in power by Frelimo), Filipe Nyusi, will no longer be able to compete, as he has reached the constitutional limit of two terms.
