Pedro Nuno Santos argues that Montenegro has shown that “the conditions are there” for valuing a career.

The PS general secretary expressed “very satisfaction” on Thursday at the prime minister-designate’s statements about his commitment to making the adjustment budget viable, believing they demonstrate that conditions exist to value some professional groups in public administration.

Speaking to journalists at the national headquarters of the PS in Lisbon at the end of a meeting of the party’s National Political Commission, Pedro Nuno Santos reacted to the statements of the Prime Minister-designate, who this Wednesday said he noted “with satisfaction the sense of responsibility” of the Socialist leader, who recognized, that AD budget adjustments are viable.

For the PS secretary general, these statements are “a sign that the conditions exist” for the country to have “more qualified public administration, valuing careers, the salaries of teachers, security forces, medical workers, and not just doctors and judicial officials.”

“I believe that this statement is a very important statement. It means that we have the conditions to move forward and resolve the situation of these public administration specialists by the summer, and therefore we note this statement with great pleasure,” he emphasized .

When asked if he had already spoken with Luis Montenegro, Pedro Nuno Santos said that he had not yet, but hoped to have this conversation “as soon as possible”, and also refused to say which two names he intends to put forward for negotiations with AD on this change budget. , emphasizing that “they will then be brought to the attention of the Prime Minister.”

The Socialist leader also expressed hope that the government has “listened” to the availability of PS and will be able to quickly “respond to issues on which there is consensus.”

Asked if he felt pressure from the AD, Pedro Nuno Santos said that now was the time for the prime minister to form a government and the party should wait to meet with that leader “naturally and calmly.”

“The PS will do its job as an opposition. It’s that simple,” he said.

Asked if he expected the AD to contact him to discuss the composition of the Assembly of the Republic table, Pedro Nuno Santos said he had no comment on the matter.

“At the right time, I think it will be next week, the PS will present its candidates,” he said, also asking to wait to see if the party will present a candidate for the presidency of parliament.

Likewise, Pedro Nuno Santos refused to announce who he would propose as leader of the PS parliamentary group, stressing that the party would still hold a meeting of the National Commission in Viseu on Saturday, as well as with federation presidents.

“We will therefore make the necessary announcements at the appropriate time,” he said.

Regarding today’s meeting, the Socialist leader said that “there were a lot of people there” and that there was a “clear consensus on the strategy that was defined and presented” by himself, both on election night and in the audience he had with the President Republic. , this Tuesday.

“We have a strategically oriented party. This is good, this is a party that is aware of its position and is ready to resist: a strong opposition, a strong opposition,” he emphasized.

On Tuesday, after a hearing with the President of the Republic, Pedro Nuno Santos expressed his readiness to make the AD’s adjustment budget viable, which aims to increase the salaries of teachers, health workers, judicial officials and security forces before the summer.

In response, Luis Montenegro said he noted with “satisfaction” Pedro Nuno Santos’ sense of responsibility, but declined to say whether he was willing to negotiate the possibility of amending the budget.
