A man caught assaulting and threatening his wife in Valongo, Porto district, was left with an electronic bracelet after he was taken to court, the GNR said on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old suspect was arrested Tuesday after filing a domestic violence complaint, police said in a statement.
After the complaint, the military went to the scene and found that the victim, the wife of the detainee, had been physically attacked, he explained.
The PNP stressed that despite the presence of the military, the man continued to physically attack and threaten the 44-year-old woman, which led to her arrest at the scene of the crime.
The suspect was subsequently taken to the Porto Judicial Court, fitted with an electronic bracelet and prohibited from contacting the victim.
GNR would like to remind you that domestic violence is a social crime and reporting it is a collective responsibility.
Complaints can be submitted through the Electronic Complaints Portal, by calling 112 and at the nearest GNR post to your place of residence.
There are also App MAI112 and SMS Security applications designed exclusively for deaf citizens.
