The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) confiscated “at the scene of the crime” two fuel supply equipment “in speculative practices” at gas stations in the municipality of Grandola, Setúbal district.
According to the ASAE statement, the operation carried out by inspectors from the operational unit in Évora resulted in the discovery of “two fuel supply devices (diesel and petrol) in speculative practice at the crime scene.”
“At the beginning of each filling, after the counting equipment was restarted, before the user pressed the equipment nozzle handle, the counter changed automatically,” one can read.
The count then began “at values above zero, automatically charging 10 cents and immediately increasing to 90 cents, without any actual fuel supply,” he added.
According to ASAE, this is a speculative crime, the value of the seized equipment is 13 thousand euros.
We are talking about “signs of the crime of profiteering (an anti-economic crime) and the crime of falsifying technical designations,” he said.
The equipment in question “was subject to metrological control this year, bearing the appropriate stamps of validity and conformity,” and the agency proceeded to “seal and preventively seize for appropriate technical examination.”
The facts were referred to the Department of Investigation and Prosecution (DIAP).
