A Sintra court has sentenced a man to eight years in prison and ordered him to pay 25,000 euros in compensation for two crimes of aggravated rape against his own wife. The panel of judges who considered the case found it proven that the accused, from the end of October to the beginning of November 2021, forced the woman to have sexual intercourse.
The victim was raped at least twice. To this end, the court’s decision states, the defendant used extreme physical force and psychological pressure against his partner. She filed a complaint directly with the Judicial Police (SP) of Lisbon.
After an investigation by the Sexual Crimes Unit, the suspect was caught. The man was in pre-trial detention, but will later appear in court when he is released. He will be detained when the verdict becomes final.
