The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) is forecasting rain, wind, snow and strong seas this Easter weekend on the continent, with rainfall decreasing in the south from Sunday.
“Until Easter, the 31st [de março]Rainfall will continue to fall, with intensity and frequency decreasing in the southern region, from Sunday afternoon,” IPMA said in a statement issued today.
“This precipitation may be accompanied by thunderstorms and hail, with a greater likelihood on the 30th,” which is Saturday.
IPMA forecasts snowfall in the mountains of the Northern Region and Serra da Estrela.
“The wind will be from the west or south-west, sometimes strong along the coast and in the highlands, especially from Saturday afternoon, with gusts of up to 65 kilometers per hour and 75 kilometers per hour, respectively,” the institute says.
Minimum temperatures “generally range from 6°C to 11°C, -3°C to 6°C in the north and centre” and maximum temperatures range from 11°C to 17°C, “below 10°C” . C in some places inside the Center.”
There will be heavy seas on the west coast “with waves from the northwest of four to five metres” which “will begin to gradually decrease on the morning of the 30th, with waves from the west or northwest of between 3 and 3.5 metres” . until the end of the 31st, Easter Sunday.”
IPMA reminds that the weather on the Portuguese mainland “continues to be influenced by frontal waves associated with a large area of depression that extends from Iceland to the Madeira region, one of the cores of which was the Nelson Trench, which has meanwhile moved to the northeast” .
