Dust from North Africa could bring mud rain

The Portuguese Environmental Protection Agency (APA) warned this Friday that an air mass with dust from North Africa is expected on Saturday, which could affect air quality in the Algarve, Lisbon and the interior of the country.

According to the APA, this air mass, originating from the deserts of North Africa and which will mainly cross Spain, will cause a “slight increase in the concentration of air particles” in Portugal.

The APA emphasizes that in the event of precipitation, air quality will improve due to the entrainment of particles in the so-called “mud rain.”

In these cases, health authorities recommend that the public preferably stay at home, wear a mask when going out and avoid outdoor sports.

A little less than a month ago, the territory of Portugal was also affected by dust coming from the deserts of North Africa.
