Prime Minister Luis Montenegro said this Saturday that “election commitments must be fulfilled” and asked about the decision to change the official government logo upon arriving in Óbidos for an informal meeting of the Council of Ministers.
When asked if he regretted changing the logo, he replied: “It was what was needed.”
“Campaign commitments must be fulfilled, and this was one of them, and I do not want to sidestep this issue. And I want to say that those who might think that we are worried about the news that is being made about us must be mistaken,” the prime minister added.
Members of the XXIV Constitutional Government arrived in Obidos at 9:30 by bus. In Porta da Vila, Luis Montenegro spoke for a few minutes with farmers, with the media at a distance.
Afterwards, while walking to the Óbidos city hall, he spoke briefly with reporters.
The Prime Minister said this Saturday’s informal meeting is aimed at bringing together all the new government officials for the first time.
Luis Montenegro declined to talk about the process for selecting government officials and did not say whether he intends to introduce proposed amendments to the state budget or whether he intends to cut taxes this year.
The Prime Minister and 17 ministers of the 24th government took office on Tuesday, 23 days after the legislative elections. The 41 secretaries of state were sworn in on Friday.
