The Bishop of Setubal, Cardinal D. Américo Aguiar, presented the Sanctuary of Christ the King with a relic of Pope John Paul II, who was part of the local WYD organizing committee during the preparation and celebration of the Day.
“I hope that it will be subject to prayer and veneration so that Pope John Paul II can continue to intercede for us as he has done until now,” the Bishop of Setúbal said as he handed over the reliquary to Father Carlos. Filipe Silva, rector of the sanctuary.
The delivered relic represents some of the blood of the Polish pontiff, canonized 10 years ago by Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square.
This relic was sent for the canonization of St. John Paul II in Rome and was part of the thirteen relics of the WYD patrons, six saints and seven blessed.
Besides St. John Paul II, for about six months the relics of St. John Bosco, St. Vincent, St. Anthony, St. Bartholomew Martyrs and St. John of Britain.
