Ventura accuses Montenegro of ‘pushing parties’ towards political crisis

Andre Ventura said that he is “with particular concern about the strategy that Luis Montenegro presented to Parliament this Thursday and which, in essence, tries to encourage parties to declare that whoever today does not interfere with the government’s program is, in fact, committed to carrying out the decisions of this legislative body.”

“Luis Montenegro knows that this is not so, and Luis Montenegro knows that by doing and saying this, he is pushing the parties precisely towards creating a completely unnecessary political crisis,” he said.

Andre Ventura spoke with journalists in the Assembly of the Republic, where debates were taking place on the program of the XXIV Constitutional Government.

Chega opposed proposals to reject the government program presented by the PCP and BE to “allow him to take office and be able over time to negotiate, dialogue and reach the necessary consensus” on the government budget and “move the country”. forward” and “solve structural problems.”

Andre Ventura accused the government of a “lack of humility” and considered it “a huge lack of responsibility and a huge provocation for the parties.”

The Chegi leader also refused to clarify whether he might change his vote or even move a vote of no confidence in the government.

“It appears that the Prime Minister came to Parliament today to deliberately provoke a political crisis, and it is not in anyone’s interests that we leave here tomorrow afternoon with a deeper political crisis than the one we are in,” he said.

The Chegi leader said he wants to believe that Montenegro is “smart enough to send the signal that the country needs,” otherwise it would be a “totally unnecessary provocation.”

Ventura also rejected accusations that he threatened the government and noted that it was “an observation: in a democracy, when there is no majority, people negotiate, give in, and alternative proposals are presented.”

President Chegi said his party had decided to vote against proposals to reject the government’s program because “you cannot reject a government without having a government to imagine.”

“By not making the rejection proposals viable, whatever they may be, Chega’s message to the prime minister and the country is that he does not want to create a situation of institutional blockade and that he does not want to create a situation of blocking the government from acting responsibly,” he said.
