This Saturday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed the island of Madeira under a yellow heat warning level, indicating that the maximum temperature in Funchal could reach 27 degrees Celsius.
The warning will be in effect until 18:00 Sunday on the southern and northern coasts, as well as in mountainous areas of the island.
A yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued by IPMA whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
IPMA forecasts partly cloudy skies for this Saturday in the Madeira archipelago, with light to moderate winds (10 to 30 km/h) from the east/northeast quadrant, sometimes strong (up to 40 km/h) in the highlands.
Temperatures are expected to drop slightly compared to previous days – Thursday and Friday – when Madeira was also under a yellow warning for hot weather.
