Anti-abortion activists in the US state of Arizona want to support the issue in November’s presidential election after the Supreme Court upheld an 1864 law that effectively bans voluntary abortion.
The president of the nonprofit Democracy Forward, Skye Perryman, told Lusa that the referendum campaign is being led by Arizona Abortion Access, an organization that has received a significant volume of messages and volunteers since the Supreme Court’s legal decision. The initiative’s website was unavailable due to the high volume of visits.
“Hundreds of thousands of Arizonans expressed support for voters to protect abortion rights at the ballot box,” Perryman said. “It’s important that people have the opportunity to vote to restore these rights.”
