The director of the National Cancer Program, José Dinis, spoke this Friday for a reorganization of the resources available in the country to overcome disparities in the population’s access to cancer care.
“It is very important that the state looks at the resources it has and where the population is and organizes them. This is what the National Cancer Program is trying to do as a technical support structure for decision makers,” said José Dinis. in an interview with Lusa agency on Saturday’s World Cancer Day.
The oncologist explained that since the vast majority of cancer patients in Portugal are treated by the National Health Service (SNS), “inequalities in access will primarily be due to heterogeneity and inequality in how the national health system is implemented in Portugal.”
