The PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Command said in a statement that the operation, which ended on Thursday and took place in the metropolitan area, was directed against a “criminal group” associated with skilled fraud and economic and financial crimes. , having 10 people of foreign nationality were detained.
However, among the ten arrested, eight men and two women, aged between 20 and 40, are all Brazilians, according to PSP.
During the searches, according to PSP, it was possible to seize “hundreds of computer materials and about a million euros already converted into cryptocurrencies.”
In previous statements to Luce, Commissioner Andre Teixeira said the police operation had to execute eight home search warrants and five search warrants outside the home.
In a memo published this Friday, the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP said the operation is “concerned with crime related to skilled fraud and economic and financial crimes, concentrated mainly in Lisbon and on the south bank of the Tagus.”
According to PSP, the “criminal group” operated through a “fake stock brokerage company” whose sole purpose was to “defraud its customers and deprive them of their invested money.”
The victims were selected using data applications that provided network operators with “not only their contact numbers, but also their ‘hobbies’, interests, financial capital and psychological profile,” the note said.
Upon contact with the victims, it was noticeable that “many of them were in a very difficult economic situation,” adds the capital’s command, noting that “a criminal network responsible for thousands of victims outside the national territory” is believed to have been dismantled. “.
The PSP also indicates that the detainees will be present this Friday at the Lisbon Court for the application of appropriate coercive measures.
