CCTV footage shows police restraining and detaining influential English rugby player

News of Billy Vunipola’s arrest in Mallorca caused a stir in England, not least because the English international rugby powerhouse fought back and it took several police officers and two electric shocks to apprehend him.

The Daily Mail had access to surveillance footage from the bar where the 1.88m tall, 126kg player was arrested in a disrespectful manner, appearing shirtless and visibly drunk.

Vunipola, who represents Saracens in Premier League rugby, was taken to hospital where he was sedated. He appeared before a judge on Sunday, who released him after paying a fine.

“I confirm that I was involved in an unfortunate altercation which got out of hand as I was leaving a bar in Mallorca on Sunday. Contrary to what has been reported in the press, there was no violence, there was no fighting and there was no threatening anyone with bottles, chairs or anything else. I was accused of resisting the authorities, and after a quick trial I paid a fine of 240 euros. The Spanish police investigation has been closed and I will obviously cooperate with the Saracens. Internal investigation process. I apologize to everyone involved,” the 31-year-old explained in a note posted on social media.
