The search for a missing elderly man in Monchique has been suspended, but to no avail.

The search for an elderly man who disappeared on Tuesday in Monchique, Faro district, was suspended this Thursday without success and will resume on Friday morning, a PNP source told Lusa.

This Thursday, searches were carried out in the areas around Monchique using patrols, kinesthetic means and a drone, but the device installed on the ground failed to locate the 72-year-old elderly man, who was last seen on Tuesday afternoon on Friday. This was announced by a public relations source from the GNR Territorial Command of Faro.

“The device that was on site today included four PNR patrols, three teams with dogs, another protection and assistance patrol and another group using drones,” the PNR officer emphasized, noting that the searches were carried out “almost always within the perimeter of the territory.” Algarve village and were suspended at 20:30.

A police source said the search operation for the missing elderly man would resume on Friday morning using a similar device to the one used in the searches this Thursday.

“At the initial stage, the search will be slightly expanded, the perimeter will be expanded,” he warned, emphasizing that “efforts will also be directed to the place where the man was last seen.”

The first alert about the 72-year-old’s disappearance was issued at around 4pm on Tuesday, with health centers and other organizations contacted to see if they had accepted the missing man, as the GNR previously indicated.

As hours passed, the search was expanded and resources at the scene were increased, said police, who will resume the search on Friday to try to find the missing elderly man.
