MotoGP approved new technical regulations for 2027

The new technical regulations of MotoGP, which will come into force in 2027, have already been approved, the company Dorna, which promotes the world championship for high-speed motorcycles, announced this Monday.

The main changes included in the new regulation, which will come into force in 2027, include a reduction in engine size (from the current 1000 cc to 850 cc) to accommodate a reduction in power and speed for safety reasons.

In addition, the diameter of the cylinders (four per engine) will also be reduced.

Dorna also decided to reduce the aerodynamic performance advantage by reducing the size of the side surfaces of the motorcycles and banning some of the appendages currently in use.

The minimum weight will be 153 kilograms, and the maximum tank volume will be 11 liters for sprint racing and 20 for main racing.

Another of the changes that will have the biggest impact is the elimination of holeshot devices, a mechanism that lowers the height of motorcycles during departure to prevent the front end from lifting up (called a wheelie) during departure.

The performance-based concessions scheme (which allows more engines and more testing for teams with worse records) will remain, albeit with minor changes.
