A 95-year-old man missing since Monday in Igreja Nova, Barcelos, has been found alive but very weak. An elderly man was found this Wednesday at 8.35 a.m. lying in a ditch in the woods in the same parish. He showed signs of hypothermia and was taken to Braga Hospital in what is believed to be a serious condition.
He was reported missing yesterday by his family after home health workers caring for him failed to find him at home. GNR Barcelos was called and searches began immediately.
On Wednesday morning, after using drones with a thermal imaging camera and using dogs, a team from the GNR Emergency Protection and Assistance Unit and members of the GNR post in Barcelos discovered an elderly man.
The rescue operation was carried out by Barcelos firefighters, who had to reach the scene on foot and deliver the victim on a rescue stretcher to an ambulance.
