The author of the racist insults against the footballer Chiquinho was punished by a ban from access to sports facilities for two years, a source at the Authority for the Prevention and Combating of Violence in Sports (APCVD) told Lusa this Thursday.
The same source confirmed the completion of the administrative proceedings initiated against the fan, who was already banned from entering sports facilities while the process initiated by the APCVD was ongoing, and who was also sentenced to pay a fine of two thousand euros.
The sanction concerns the game between Farense and Famalican (1-1), played at the San Luis Stadium in Faro on February 10, as part of the 21st round of the I League, which was abandoned between 80 and 84 minutes after The Famalicenses striker Chiquinho complained to the referee about alleged racist abuse from the bench.
Two days later, on February 12, PSP Faro reported that it had identified “a 53-year-old man, a resident of the Algarve city, suspected of being the author of the racist insults against Chiquinho, who was named as the defendant.
On Saturday, Farense asked for “an exemplary punishment” for the behavior, as did the Portuguese Professional Football League, which called on authorities to “exemplarily punish” the fan responsible for the “inappropriate behavior” “to make it clear that there is no place for racism in football.”
