Montenegro accuses police of ‘unrealistic scenarios’

Luis Montenegro presided over the inauguration of the new national director of the PSP, Luis Carrillo, and was referring to the meetings (the next one will take place on Wednesday) that Margarida Blasco held with the PSP platform and the GNR. After putting forward a proposal to add to the mission earlier this month that police considered “offensive”, the minister received a counter-proposal. It includes mission allowances ranging from €905 to €1,756 per month, retroactive to January 2023. It was in this month that PJ inspectors began to receive a mission allowance (1026 euros per month). Platform spokesman Bruno Pereira criticized Luis Montenegro: “The Prime Minister said during the election campaign that he was going to review the financial situation of the police. It is alarming that you consider this to be an unrealistic scenario.”

“Priority is the welfare of police officers”
Luis Carrillo’s speech at his inauguration as national director of the PSP was full of praise for his predecessor, José Barros Correia. They exchanged a tight hug. “I thank my predecessor for appointing me as Commander of the Special Police Unit and for his commitment and dedication in his role as National Director,” said Luis Carrillo.

The intentions of the new leader of the PSP are determined from the very beginning. “The priority is the well-being of police officers through improved socio-professional and financial conditions” and provision of “adequate equipment and quality training.” Meanwhile, this Friday José Barros Correia spent his first day before retirement. The order to transfer the former national director to this situation was signed by Minister Margarida Blasco. Therefore, for the inauguration of his successor, he was dressed in civilian clothes.
