In a statement, the PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Authority (COMETLIS) stressed that this phenomenon, which exists at all European airports, is that suspects claiming to be professionals legally qualified to carry out transport lure potential clients into transport at lower prices. prices. As part of the fight against this illegal activity, on Thursday, 2,808 euros were seized from a 41-year-old man who was picking up passengers at Humberto Delgado Airport for unauthorized commercial activities.
Police indicated that in the first four months of this year alone, more than 400 such violations were recorded at Lisbon airport.
“With regard to administrative offenses, in 2023, at Humberto Delgado Airport alone, almost a thousand violations were registered and reported to the competent authority, with fines amounting to one million euros,” he added.
The PSP also stated that, in addition to administrative offenses, as part of these operations, criminal phenomena related to these activities were also identified, which led to the arrests and/or detention of the accused, as well as the confiscation of “several vehicles and large sums of money.” money”.
