The Council of the European Union (EU) on Tuesday adopted a “historic reform” of European migration and asylum rules, giving the final green light to move forward towards “fair burden-sharing among member states.”
“Today the Council adopted a historic reform of the European asylum and migration system. This reform establishes a set of rules that will help streamline the management of arrivals, create efficient and uniform procedures and ensure fair burden sharing among member states,” the EU institution said in a statement.
In total, the EU Council today adopted 10 pieces of legislation that will reform the European asylum and migration management system and which now have two years to put into practice, a process supported by the European Commission that will determine the overall aid plan for countries.
