The European Football Championship, which will be held in Germany this summer, will have a reliable security system against “all types of threats,” German Interior Minister Nancy Faser stressed on Tuesday.
“We, together with all security agencies, are preparing to counter all types of threats. The police will have a large presence in all places and wherever there is fan movement,” Faezer told the press.
Organizers of Euro 2024 expect several million people from across Europe to travel to Germany for the tournament, which runs from June 14 to July 14.
The German police will be supported by 300 officers from participating countries, including Portugal.
German authorities are looking at several threats, from common crimes such as petty theft and violent crime to terrorist and extremist groups.
A special task is associated with the defense of the Ukrainian national team, which will play the first round games in Munich, Dusseldorf and Stuttgart.
Back in March, Feiser announced that border controls would be in place during the tournament, as well as close cooperation with the French police.
The Portugal national football team is in Group F along with the Czech Republic, Turkey and Georgia. Portugal will also be represented by referee Arthur Soares Dias, assisted by Paulo Soares and Pedro Ribeiro, with Thiago Martins serving as video referee (VAR).
