The helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed this Sunday in the Varzakan region of Iran when he was returning from the opening ceremony of a dam on the border between Iran and Azerbaijan, IRNA reported.
According to the same source, rescue teams have been dispatched to the area and search operations are continuing to find the crew members.
Fog and impassable terrain make the search difficult.
Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said, as quoted by IRNA, that due to difficult weather conditions, the search and rescue team may take some time to reach the crash site.
The minister expressed hope that the team will soon arrive at the site and provide additional information.
