Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) was caught off guard by a crash three laps from the end of the sprint race at the MotoGP Catalan Grand Prix.
In statements released by the Trackhouse team, Miguel Oliveira said he lost “the front at the end of turn five” in the race won by Spaniard Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia).
“I had a good start and was in the glasses, which was good. But suddenly I lost the front of the bike coming out of turn 5 and that was it. I didn’t feel very good on the track. The front and even the rear lost momentum after the first few laps,” explained the driver from Almada.
Miguel Oliveira admits he was “disappointed with the fall” because he “didn’t attack while braking,” so the fall wasn’t “due to the brakes.”
“I was conservative at best, but not enough to avoid an accident,” lamented the Trackhouse driver.
However, Oliveira stressed that “at least” he managed to “show competitive times.”
The main race of the sixth stage of the season will take place on Sunday.
