Traffic on the A28 motorway, between the AEP roundabout and the A4 junction in Matosinhos, will be disrupted in both directions from 11pm to 6am on Saturday, the city council warned this Friday.
The restrictions relate to the construction of a highway overpass that will connect Barranha with Cruz de Pau, a viaduct weighing about 410 tons.
The traffic restriction will occur at kilometer 5+550, says the municipality of Matosinhos in the Porto district.
Alternatively, those traveling in a north-south direction should exit at Junction 1 of the A28 motorway (Matosinhos), while those traveling in a south-north direction at the end of Avenida AEP should take the exit towards Circunvalção/Senhora da Hora/ . Centro Commercial.
The new viaduct, designed for both cars and pedestrians, will have two lanes and wide sidewalks.
On April 6, the Matosinhos City Council estimated that the construction of this overpass, suspended for six months, would resume “quickly,” considering it decisive for the municipality.
“We will finally try to find a solution that will guarantee that we overcome the difficulties and resume work, which is what we intend,” said municipal president Luisa Salgueiro at the end of a public meeting of the municipal executive. , after questioning by PSD councilor Bruno Pereira.
The overall project involves the construction of a viaduct over the A28 motorway, which will provide a road connection between Barraña and Cruz de Pau, with an investment of 3.8 million euros.
The project includes the creation of a new street approximately 500 meters long, an overpass over the A28 motorway spanning approximately 42 meters, and the demolition/replacement of the grandstand at the northern summit of the Estádio do Mar stadium.
The new street starts next to EB Estádio do Mar, serves the entrance to the north summit of Estádio do Mar and the sports pavilion with a subsequent reshaping of the parking area, and ends with a new roundabout at the connection with Rua da Barranha.
In an interview with Porto Canal in April, construction director Ines Cerqueira said that the construction of this viaduct is carried out using technology similar to that used in the construction of the Andresas Viaduct in Porto, which crosses the Via de Cintura Interna (VCI).
This project, created for Euro 2004, was innovative at the time and aimed to reduce execution time and minimize the impact on the normal functioning of the VCI.
