The emergency department of gynecology and obstetrics and the maternity hospital in Aveiro are closed

The emergency gynecology and obstetrics department and the maternity ward of the Aveiro Hospital are closed this Sunday from 8:30 am due to a shortage of doctors, the institution announced.

According to the local health department (ULS) of the Aveiro region, “due to unforeseen reasons and despite all the efforts made to fill the medical scales, restrictions in the functioning” of these services are expected.

From 8:30 am this Sunday until 8:30 am on Monday, the relevant services are closed and if necessary, “users should contact the SNS 24 Grávida line (808 24 24 24) or INEM (112)”, see hospital.

“ULS of the Region of Aveiro calls for everyone’s understanding, regretting in the future the possible restrictions that this situation may cause and which, despite all efforts, could not be overcome,” the statement can also be read.

Lack of medical resources puts great pressure on the management of emergency care schedules in hospitals, especially in the summer.

Last week, the Doctors in Struggle movement announced it was collecting signatures for a letter to be sent to the Ministry of Health warning of the industry’s problems, and acknowledged a “hot summer” with a shortage of specialists to provide emergency care.

“Signatures are currently being collected for a petition in a letter to the minister to deny overtime,” said Susana Costa, a spokeswoman for the Doctors in Struggle movement.

Faced with a shortage of specialists to fill emergency services registries, the doctor warned that “even if there is not the movement that we had last year,” when thousands of doctors joined, the country “will have a very serious problem filling emergency services reserves ” Emergency services work schedule.

Speaking to Lusa, the leader of an inorganic movement that campaigned for an end to overtime last year warned that “it’s going to be a hot summer” to complete shifts during the holiday period.
