Prime Minister Luis Montenegro voted this Sunday in Espinho ahead of the European elections, recalling that all voters will be able to vote in any polling station in the country next Sunday, underlining the government’s commitment to this “giant operation”.
“Mobile voting can be used in these elections. I would also like to take this opportunity to tell Portuguese men and women that next Sunday, wherever they are, if they have an identity document, a citizenship card, they can go to any polling station in the country to realize their right to vote,” said Luis Montenegro.
The head of government stressed that this option allows for “more participation” in the European elections, combining them with a “long weekend” so that “internally displaced people can still exercise their right.”
After the preliminary vote in Escola Básica No. 2 de Espinho in Aveiro district, Luis Montenegro told reporters that the government had been focusing “for many weeks” on trying to “minimize” or even “eliminate” the possibility of a problem in an operation he called “giant.”
“We are talking about a gigantic operation. Obviously, for the first time, we will have complete computerization of files and the need for every polling station, and not just in every municipality or district, at every polling station to have an accessible file to identify any voter throughout the country,” the prime minister explained.
