Chegi President Andre Ventura took responsibility for the party’s performance in today’s European elections, admitting that the election of one to three MPs expected according to forecasts was not the intended result.
“There is positive news – this is Chegi’s entry into the European Parliament in any way and under any scenario. This is a scenario that I would also like to welcome,” he said.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival at the hotel chosen by Chega to watch European election night in Lisbon, Andre Ventura said “this is clearly not the desired result,” repeating that the expectation was “to win this election.”
According to television forecasts, Chega is expected to elect between one and three MEPs and will support the PS and the Democratic Alliance (AD). It is also possible that it will end up in fourth place if the Liberal Initiative becomes the third party with the most votes.
“Chega, according to all forecasts, is behind the PS and SDP. This was not the result we expected, and we have come to terms with this, I, of course, bear responsibility for this,” he said.
Andre Ventura arrived at the hotel around 20:15, accompanied by the head of the party list, who did not want to talk to journalists.
When asked whether António Tangier Correa’s decision to head Chegi’s list had reached the European Parliament, the leader replied that “it was a good choice.”
“We had a good team, I don’t regret anything, I am responsible for this result,” he emphasized.
