Socialist Party Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos this Friday accused the PSD of ruling “in the interests of a minority” and accused Luis Montenegro of being “the main agent of political instability in Portugal.”
“Mr Prime Minister says he governs with the concrete lives of the Portuguese people in mind. It is not true. We have seen a set of policies that are touted as targeting the middle class, but which only benefit a minority. what this government calls the middle class,” accused Pedro Nuno Santos while visiting the National Agricultural Fair (FNA) in Santarem.
The PS general secretary criticized the prime minister for his reluctance to involve parliament and the opposition in government decisions, pointing to Luis Montenegro as “the main agent of political instability in Portugal.”
“In the Prime Minister we have the main agent of political instability in Portugal. He has no desire to build anything with the Socialist Party, even though it does not have the majority to make its governance viable. (..) The government cannot behave as if it has an absolute majority,” he criticized.
Pedro Nuno Santos believes the government needs to change its approach to the opposition and parliament, noting that the PS should be taken seriously in political discussions and decisions.
“At this moment it is important to warn me that the government must improve its relations with the opposition and with parliament. The PS is not a party subject to humiliation. We elect deputies, we have a parliamentary composition. group, we have an election program, we have proposals and we have a vision for the country, and the IPS cannot simply be ignored.”
