Emirates Airlines A380 engine explodes during takeoff at Sao Paulo airport

An Emirates Airlines flight had to be grounded early Sunday at Guarulhos International Airport in Sao Paulo after one of the plane’s four engines exploded during takeoff towards Dubai. According to passengers, there were no injuries. The airline chose not to take a position.

The explosion of one of the two engines on the left wing of the A380, still the world’s largest plane, was broadcast live by cameras mounted outside the plane, sending live images to screens mounted in front of each passenger. The incident occurred when the giant plane, 72 meters long and 79 meters wide from wing to wing, began to pick up speed on the main runway before taking off several meters further.

After the explosion, the pilots of Flight EK 262 informed the control tower that one of the engines had exploded and that they needed to abort their trip and taxi to the gate to disembark passengers, which was permitted. Of the hundreds of people on board, according to reports from some of them and real-time aerial surveillance profiles, some were accommodated on planes of other companies, mainly Air France, while the rest, most of them, were accommodated in hotels in the region. They will continue their journey this Sunday on on another Emirates Airlines plane.

The incident did not cause any serious problems other than frightening everyone on board and delaying arrival at their destination, but if it had occurred a few seconds later, it could have caused a major tragedy. A huge and heavy plane would be on the ground without tires in a few seconds, starting to rise at high speed, and an explosion in one of the engines could cause a very strong shock, as a result of which the plane would lose balance and fall. .
