A fire broke out at a fruit sales company in Marco de Canaveses this morning. The alarm was raised at 2:57 a.m. and more than twelve hours later it has still not been extinguished. There are 47 cameramen working at the site, accompanied by 15 media outlets. Firefighters had to help put out the fire. The plant is located in an industrial zone.
Volunteer fire department commander Marco de Canaveses said the flames were actively spreading outside the facility when first responders arrived, but in the meantime they had spread inside.
The factory stores large quantities of fruit in plastic boxes, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. High temperatures have been the biggest challenge for operators so far.
The strategy, which will be revised, has come under defensive pressure due to high temperatures. Firefighters have not yet entered the premises of the plant, which will be destroyed.
Firefighters from Marco de Canaveses, Castelo de Paiva, Vila Mean, Bayan and Penafiel are on the scene. GNR representatives are on site and the case has already been transferred to the judicial police.
