In a statement released this Wednesday, the government said that the resolution to appoint the board of directors of the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (DE-SNS) was approved on Tuesday, following a proposal by António Gandra D’Almeida, for a period of three years.
This resolution appoints to this body Ana Margarida Ribeiro Correia de Oliveira, Ana João Vieira Rangel, Carla Alexandra de Menezes Moutinho Henriques Gonçalo Catarina, Hélder Teixeira de Souza and Maria Elen Alves Fariña Martins.
According to the DE-SNS Constitution of October 2023, the Chief Executive of the National Health Service is assisted in the performance of his duties by a management board.
The appointment of the new five members came about two weeks after Gandra D’Almeida took office, replacing Dr. Fernando Araujo, who resigned at the end of April after leading DE-SNS for more than 15 months, claiming that he was not wants to be an obstacle to the government in policies and measures that it considered necessary to implement.

The Health Emergency and Transformation Plan, presented by the government at the end of May, envisages the creation of an emergency and urgent care unit at DE-SNS, which will centrally manage and monitor Portugal’s emergency and emergency health care network. .
“Once a new DE-SNS executive team is appointed, this measure should be one of the priorities to be implemented immediately,” the plan states, adding that the measure is intended for “all emergency services professionals who are currently do not have at their disposal a single channel for centralized and specialized support in solving problems.”
