Health Minister risks returning 50 thousand euros

Ana Paula Martins, a professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy (FF) at the University of Lisbon, received about 50 thousand euros for the year she was on sabbatical (without teaching) from December 2020 to December 2021, but risks having this money returned.

The issue is that the current Minister of Health presented in 2023, in a report on sabbatical, works published before the start of the sabbatical, and proposed a new course of study at FF, the program of which was copied and translated from another existing one at an English university.

In January this year, the FF Academic Council considered that there were “inconsistencies,” but ultimately approved the report, as did the FF Council. If it had not been approved, the teaching assistant would have had to pay back the salary he had earned, approximately 50,000 euros.

However, this comeback could still happen. “The FF and the University of Lisbon must clarify everything so that there is no doubt,” says José Moreira, president of the National Union of Higher Education.

ABOUT CM He tried unsuccessfully to obtain a position from the parish priest, the FF and the minister.
