The blue suede shoes Elvis Presley wore during his iconic 1956 appearance on The Steve Allen Show, in which he sang the classic “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You,” have sold at auction for $150,000 . (about 140 thousand euros). The pair of shoes was purchased by a private collector living in California, USA.
“The value reflects the importance of this iconic object,” Andrew Aldridge of auction house Henry Aldridge & Son told CBS News, explaining, “When you think of Elvis, you probably think of turned-up collars, Las Vegas and blue suede pumps. This sale once again reflects the enduring fascination with Elvis Presley.”
The piece is so associated with the image of Elvis Presley (1935-1977) that it was he who popularized the theme of “Blue Suede Shoes” – “Blue Suede Shoes” in free translation into Portuguese – despite the fact that the theme was written by singer-songwriter Carl Perkins.
The shoes were worn all these years by one of Elvis’s friends, Alan Fortas, to whom the singer gave them before joining the army.
