The Republican-controlled US House Judiciary Committee on Monday sued Attorney General Merrick Garland to obtain an audio recording of Joe Biden’s testimony in the case of improper storage of classified documents.
Tensions between the Republican majority and the Justice Department escalated when the White House used its executive privilege to block the release of the requested audio recording. The White House said the commission wanted the recordings to be “cleaned up” and used for political purposes.
A majority led by Mike Johnson subpoenaed Merrick Garland for disobeying a subpoena, but the Justice Department declined to act because of the precedent that he had set for not challenging White House executive privilege.
