Spaniard burnt in industrial accident at Campo Mayor plant

A 34-year-old Spaniard was seriously injured this Friday in an industrial accident at a factory in Campo Maior (Portalegre), suffering burns after a suspected explosion of a hot water cylinder, GNR and Civil Protection reported.

Speaking to Lusa, a source from the Subregional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of Alto Alentejo explained that the warning of an industrial accident at the rubber factory in Campo Maior was transmitted to firefighters at 5:00 p.m.

A seriously injured man who “suffered burns from hot water” after emerging from the “exploded” tank was taken by ambulance to Santa Luzia Hospital in Elvas.

A source from the territorial command of Portalegre NTC confirmed to Luce that it was an industrial accident, presumably caused by an “explosion of a hot water cylinder.”

The same security forces will contact the Acting Commissioner for Work (ACT) to investigate the circumstances in which the accident occurred.

A helicopter from the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) was mobilized to the scene, but after examining the victim on a football pitch in the village of Alentejo, the air transport was demobilized.

The accident resulted in the mobilisation of 15 responders supported by six vehicles, including resources from the fire brigade, GNR and INEM, namely the ambulance and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) from Portalegre.
