“The Ministry of Justice mourns with deep respect the death of Joana Marques Vidal, a renowned judge and former Attorney General of the Republic,” Justice Minister Rita Alarcao Judice wrote in a statement.

“Joana Marques Vidal will always be worthy of our tribute, admiration and gratitude, and we share her pain and sorrow with her family,” the Justice Department said in a statement.

Former Attorney General of the Republic Joana Marques Vidal died on Tuesday at the age of 68 in the São João Hospital in Porto after several weeks in a coma.
