On Tuesday, the Minister of Justice mourned the death of former Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) Joana Márquez Vidal, expressing “deep respect” for the passing of this “wonderful judge”.
“The Ministry of Justice mourns with deep respect the death of Joana Marques Vidal, a renowned judge and former Attorney General of the Republic,” Justice Minister Rita Alarcao Judice wrote in a statement.
The Justice Minister says: “Please join those who will miss him and those who pay tribute to his character, integrity and dedication to justice.”
“Joana Marques Vidal will always be worthy of our tribute, admiration and gratitude, and we share her pain and sorrow with her family,” the Justice Department said in a statement.
Former Attorney General of the Republic Joana Marques Vidal died on Tuesday at the age of 68 in the São João Hospital in Porto after several weeks in a coma.
The information was confirmed to Luse by a source close to the family, following a report in the online newspaper Observador.
Joana Márquez Vidal was the first woman to head the Attorney General’s Office, from 2012 to 2018, and was succeeded in this post by Lucilia Gago.
