North American basketball star Kawhi Leonard will leave the U.S. team preparing to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the team announced Wednesday.
The winger has recently suffered several knee injuries.
The player participated in all of the team’s training sessions and said he was feeling better, according to North American media. However, the coaches felt he was not fit to participate in what is expected to be a very competitive tournament.
To replace Kawhi, the U.S. chose Derrick White, a teammate of Nehemias Queta on the champion Boston Celtics.
A magnificent cast:
The US team, which is aiming for glory in the French capital, includes such stars as: Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics), LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers) and Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics).
