Frenchman Francois Letexier, 35, was appointed by UEFA on Thursday to officiate the Euro 2024 football final between Spain and England, becoming the youngest referee to officiate a decisive game of the tournament.
At the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, François Letexier, who has been playing for the national team since 2017, will be assisted by his compatriots Cyril Munier and Mehdi Rahmouni, Polish referee Szymon Marciniak will be the fourth official, and Frenchman Jerome Brisard will be the video referee (VAR).
In this European Football Championship, where Portuguese referee Artur Soares Dias was present, François Letexier officiated three matches: Denmark-Serbia (0-0), Croatia-Albania (2-2), both in groups, and Spain-Georgia (4-1), 1/8 finals.
Letexier, who turned 35 last April, will be the youngest referee to officiate at the European Championship final, the 17th of which is being held in Germany.
The Frenchman will replace Sweden’s Anders Frisk, who was 37 when he oversaw the Euro 2000 decider between Italy and France, which ended in triumph for the Gauls, in a competition held in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Spain, European champions in 1964, 2008 and 2012, and England, the finalists in the latest edition, will play the Euro 2024 decider on Sunday, starting at 20:00 (Lisbon time), in Berlin.
